This intimate image of a great Blue Heron Preening is presented as a vertical landscape. The detail and muted colors in the birds feathers were wonderfully captured on film. Herons are widely scattered through out the United States. Typically they are observed while fishing for their supper. I have watched one however catching mice in a field using methods similar to the coyote. They nest in groups called rookeries generally in remote areas in the tops of tall trees.
